Woking TimeBank

Woking TimeBank

The Woking Timebank will bring people together allowing them to share their help, skills and friendship and in return they can get help with things they aren’t so good at or would like to learn about.

How does it work? It is a scheme that allows people to exchange their time and skills in return for 'time credits' to spend with others in the community. Everyone's time is valued equally and one hour of help earns one credit. All sorts of things can be exchanged through a Timebank, for example, sewing/knitting, gardening, shopping, dog walking, DIY, companionship (playing board games, going to the cinema chatting on the phone). Also things like work skills (CV writing, interview skills, IT, etc). Pretty much anything is possible.

Being part of a Timebank is a great way to meet new people and make new friends and at the same time share skills and expertise. It has been shown to be an effective way to combat loneliness, keep active, keep learning and help build a healthy community.

Who can join? We believe that everyone has something to offer and their skills are equally valued. It is also very suitable for groups to participate – which makes it particularly good for youth activities and businesses that may be looking to expand their community involvement. It doesn’t cost anything – either to join or to get help. It works on a time-based credit and debit system so for every hour spent helping, the member earns an hour’s credit which they can spend when they need something.
