Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Youth Mental Health Events

Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Youth Mental Health Events

Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum and Surrey Faith Links are delighted to be running two events to raise awareness on youth mental health issues.

Both SMEF and SFL are keen to promote mental wellbeing in ethnic minority and faith communities. Youth mental health is of growing concern and often goes undiagnosed. It is is normal for children and young people to experience various types of emotional distress as they develop and mature. For example, it is common for children to experience anxiety about school, or young people to experience short periods of depression that are transient in nature. When symptoms persist, it may be time to seek professional assistance.

Our events are targeted at parents with children between the ages of 10-16 and will give people the opportunity to explore mental wellbeing with the help of professionals. Mental health service providers will have stalls on the day to give information and answer any questions.

A workshop for parents will be organised to explore some common illnesses; addictions, eating disorders, anxiety/depression, self- harm, and ADHD with an opportunity to discuss signs and symptoms and how and where to go for help.

Both of our events are open to public and free of charge. Registration required at admin@smef.org.uk. Thank you for your interest!
